20,000 Parts, Two Vendors, No Migration suite

How a Real EDA Migration Turns the eCAD Librarian Into the EDA Automation Engineer

That is the situation a senior CAD librarian found himself in on a Monday morning, when her company decided to move off Cadence Concept HDL and onto Siemens Xpedition by the end of the next fiscal year. By Friday he had searched everywhere Cadence support portals, Siemens documentation, third-party migration vendors, conference papers and confirmed what every team that has tried this migration eventually confirms.

THERE IS NO CONVERTER

Cadence does not make one. Siemens does not make one. The third-party tools do not cover Concept HDL well, or they cost too much, or they are too old to use.

The footprint side does have a path: Siemens ships the Allegro to Xpedition Layout Translator, and it works for the PCB and the cells. But the schematic library 20,000 parts …
